This is a proposal for a new Flashflood project, by Becca. I am looking for input and collaboration with other artists, printers, venues, and organizations in need of financial support.

What is the project?

Flashflood will create beautiful, high quality prints which will illuminate and highlight existing struggles. These posters will be available to existing infoshops, small businesses, and other venues to sell, and these venues will then send a portion of the proceeds directly to organizations and movements directly engaged in the struggle and in need of financial resources.They also send us shipping costs for the next batch of posters The recipient organizations or movements will then send Flashflood an accounting of financial support recieved from the project, as a means of accountability in this process.

Why is this a good idea?

This project helps everyone gain, and in the process we create connections that have not existed previously, and raise counsciousness of important struggles in several different ways.

What Flashflood gets out of this project: a venue for our creative projects, an efficient fundraising mechanism to support our allies, and a fun project to work on with others locally, spreading media making skills and building collective process.

What Flashflood puts into it: time, creativity, materials, networking

What small businesses and infoshops put into it: the time to sell the posters, the time and postage to send proceeds to recipient movements and to send postage for the next shipment to Flashflood.

What they get out of it: a product that is nearly free to them, that they get a portion of the proceeds of, an opportunity to contribute directly to movements, new relationships with movements!

What movements get out of it: a continuous fundraiser! Connections to venues previously uncontacted.

What movements put into it: the time to keep track and report proceeds coming from the project.

Isn't this three-way transaction a little roundabout?

My impression is that we need to come up with new forms of economic transaction to build what our movements and communities actually need. This model will hopefully build a network of supportive relationships as well as using resources several times within that supportive context before the money comes to rest in recipient movements. To illustrate this dynamic, we could think of money as a fluid resource like water. In the permaculture movement, there is a central idea that water should be used several times in a system, gradiating down from drinking water, water to wash dishes, water for the garden, water to flush the toilet, etc.
